LICHTHUND and Critical Role revealed at the Triple-i Initiative that ROCKBEASTS, the story-driven rock band management RPG, launches in January 2027. You can try it now: a free demo with the first two episodes is on Steam, with a third episode arriving for Steam Next Fest.

Critical Role cast and Iggy Pop

Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer, Sam Riegel and Liam O’Brien voice three key characters, alongside the previously announced Iggy Pop. More cast reveals are planned before launch. It’s Critical Role’s second foray into games, after its involvement with Adhoc Studio’s DISPATCH.

From garage to stadium

In ROCKBEASTS, you manage an up-and-coming grunge band trying to escape garage obscurity for stadium glory, in an alternative 1990s America full of anthropomorphic characters. Book gigs, manage resources and fragile egos, schedule rehearsals and navigate the music industry. Every decision shapes the band’s relationships, reputation and future.

A scene from ROCKBEASTS

It’s written by award-winning narrative director Jakub Szamałek (The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077) and features hand-drawn art inspired by MTV’s heyday and 17 original tracks drawn from ’90s alternative rock. ROCKBEASTS is coming to PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
