Come along, this one is for those who like to build at a calm pace: Irregular Shapes has announced the early access plans for City Tales – Medieval Era, a creative and relaxing kingdom simulator, set to debut on May 22, 2025 on Steam, for PC. It is published by Firesquid.
A kingdom that breaks free of the grid
One charm of the game, according to the Steam description, is that it lets you build big cities that escape the traditional grid of city builders. Each neighborhood is planned according to the residents’ needs, and you help your companions in each one’s stories until you have a city to call your own.
What comes in early access
At launch, the game brings:
- two game modes, Settle and Bard, both designed for long, cozy sessions;
- 9 companions to help build the settlements;
- two handmade maps;
- over 50 buildings and 40 resources;
- a deep economic system that evolves across four tiers.
The first update
The studio has already shared what comes right after the debut: an expanded companion system, caravans and escorts to transport resources, and interface improvements.
And further ahead
The list of plans includes castle upgrades, wonders to build, defensive walls, trade, bridges and new game modes. My little gamer heart is already imagining the little bridge over the river.
Who is behind it
Irregular Shapes was founded in 2022 by Rémi Malet with the aim of breaking the traditional limitations of city-building games. Firesquid is a publisher focused on supporting developers in realizing their visions.
Anyone who wants to follow along can already add the game to their wishlist on Steam, where there is also a demo. The community gathers on Discord, X, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook, YouTube and Bluesky.
