Numbers first: up to 30%. That is the slice of revenue Xsolla says mobile game developers can recover with the new Buy Button, announced on May 7, 2025. The tool arrives a week after a US court ruling, on April 30, that barred Apple from blocking external payment links and from charging commission on those purchases in the country.
How it works
The studio places in the game a link that takes the player to a checkout in the browser, built with Xsolla Web Shop and Pay Station. You can sell virtual items, currencies and bundles. Xsolla acts as Merchant of Record, meaning it handles tax calculation, collection and remittance worldwide. The package also includes one-tap purchase and autofill, catalog sync, loyalty programs, prepaid gift cards, parental controls, integration with LiveOps promotions and selling via web, Discord and Telegram.
One detail: the 30% figure does not include normal payment processing fees.
Chris Hewish, Xsolla’s chief strategy officer, said: “This court ruling is a turning point for mobile game developers in the US and around the world.” According to him, you just sign up through the Xsolla Publisher account, use the Instant Web Shop model and “generate links in minutes, with no custom coding needed”. The integration guide is on the company’s website.
Translating the jargon
In practice, this means the checkout leaves the app and goes to the browser, and the store’s commission goes with it. The usual fine-print caveat remains: the ruling cited applies to the US, so outside it the math doesn’t change just because of it.
