Translating the jargon: the space colony simulator Stardeus now has ship-to-ship combat. Paradox Arc and developer Kodo Linija released the “Ship Combat” update on May 7, 2025, which adds a layer of strategy and action to the game.
The game’s foundation
For context: in Stardeus, the player is the artificial intelligence of a broken spaceship, crewed by drones and by human survivors in hibernation. The task is to send the drones to repair the ship, save the crew and travel among the stars in a procedurally generated universe. The game has been in Steam early access since October 12, 2022.
What changes with combat
The numbers and the new rules:
- AI-controlled enemy ships from several factions;
- these ships also fight each other, without depending on the player;
- the same ships can be used for trade, not just for shootouts.
In practice, this means space stops being a static backdrop. A ship that shows up on the radar can be a threat, a customer or just someone busy fighting someone else.
More efficient hyperspace
Travel has changed too. New types of engines let you jump straight to distant sectors, which greatly reduces travel time. In addition, the “Return Beacons” mark places already explored so the ship can return to them later, which helps get back to resource sources without retracing the whole route.
New story events, a brand-new mission and improved weapons round out the update. The full list is in the update notes on the game’s Steam page.
Who publishes it
Paradox Arc is the Paradox Interactive label dedicated to incubating and publishing deep, highly replayable games from smaller studios. The catalog includes Across the Obelisk, Mechabellum and Starminer. The stated idea is to maintain long partnerships with teams around the world.
One last practical fact: the Steam page lists a Brazilian Portuguese interface. Your ship may be falling apart, but at least the menus will be in the right language.
