Anyone who lived through the era remembers the MicroProse name stamped on boxes of F-15 Strike Eagle, Silent Service, Falcon and X-COM. Now the company founded in 1982 will publish Afterconflict, a realistic tactical FPS set in an alternate World War III during the Cold War, with NATO and Warsaw Pact soldiers fighting in a devastated Europe.
A demo for those who like precision
A technical demo is already on Steam, with a Shooting Range where even the basics demand care: ballistics, damage, reloading and weapon wear follow realistic models, with no shortcuts. The game runs on its own engine, with dynamic lighting that changes visibility in combat and a modding framework for the community to expand the experience. Uniforms, sights, ammunition types and field behavior were designed to imitate real performance. The official YouTube channel shows the development behind the scenes.
Besides remaking some classics, MicroProse today publishes games such as Highfleet, Sea Power and Regiments.
Counter talk
In the old days, a MicroProse simulator came with a thick manual, the kind you read cover to cover before taking off. Afterconflict seems to keep the tradition of demanding patience from the player, now on the battlefield instead of the cockpit.
