Numbers first: more than 110 developers, co-op for up to three players and a script co-written by a film director. La Quimera, Reburn’s first original game, entered Steam early access for PC on May 7, 2025.
Where Reburn comes from
Reburn is the former Ukrainian arm of 4A Games, one of the studios behind the Metro series. The project lead is Oleksandr Kostiuk, gameplay and AI designer on Metro 2033, Last Light and Exodus. The CEO and co-founder, Dmytro Lymar, has worked in the industry since 2006. The team also brings together veterans of other well-known FPS games, such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Nuevo Caracas
The game is set in Nuevo Caracas, a Latin American megalopolis of the future, shaken by a technological collapse, shady corporate deals and rival factions fighting for power. In the Steam description, it is a fragmented world in which micro-states depend on mercenary forces. The player is part of a group of mercenaries involved in a larger conflict, in which mystical events blur the line between reality and illusion. The map includes jungles, gleaming skyscrapers and ruins overrun by robotic creatures.
The story was created by Nicolas Winding Refn, director of Drive and The Neon Demon, together with E.J.A. Warren.
Translating the jargon
In practice, this means a campaign FPS with high-tech exoskeletons, futuristic weapons and superhuman abilities, plus an arsenal to collect and upgrade. You can play solo or with up to two friends.
What early access will still change
Reburn was direct about the plan. Early access is meant to gather feedback, and the studio intends to:
- add more features;
- better integrate narrative and gameplay;
- include levels that close the main story arcs;
- refine the pacing and combat design.
In other words, the story is not yet complete at this stage. A heads-up for those who like to finish what they start.
The game’s page is on Steam. At this stage, the game is exclusive to Windows PC.
