Anyone who lived through the era remembers magazine covers with a very red Mars promising adventures that the hardware could barely show. Horizon Journey, from Redivided Studios, takes the path of realism: an open-world survival game on a recreation of Mars made with real NASA imagery. The Steam launch is set for June 27, 2025, and a playable demo appears at the June Steam Next Fest.
The 17th Endeavor Mission
The year is 2053 and you are part of the 17th Endeavor Mission. The job is to survive, build a base for humanity and begin terraforming the planet. This involves building and expanding the colony, managing energy, food, water, oxygen, health, hunger, finances and minerals, scavenging abandoned colonies for resources and secrets from earlier missions, and facing sandstorms and radiation zones. There are customizable vehicles and online co-op mode.
Counter talk
In the old days, Mars was just a backdrop for shootouts; today it turns into an oxygen spreadsheet, and plenty of people prefer it that way. If the terraforming has the weight it promises, the Next Fest demo will be a good first step in that red dust.
