Check this one out: Filthium Zero, a single-player survival roguelite from NOISE_HUM Studio, has opened its “coming soon” page on Steam. The studio is run by Marcis Lokis, a solo developer with a decade of experience in graphic design and motion graphics, and this is his first game.
How it goes
Each run puts you in control of a new UNIT, sent to extract Filthium from Earth’s water sources. The scheme: collect, take it to the Collectors and repeat until the zone is cleared, while waves of mutants reanimated by the corruption come at you. Combat is manual and combo-based: you can bounce on slimes to gain height, attack from the air and crush enemies by dropping your barrel.
A floating skull serves as a guide and remembers every UNIT that failed; by finding badges and listening to those units’ last audio logs, you discover what happened to them. There are also random upgrades each run and arcade-style scoring.
Straight talk
Arcade scoring in a roguelite is music to my arcade ears. For those who like combo action and chasing records, it’s worth wishlisting; there is no release date yet.
