Anyone who played MMORPGs in the last decade remembers the impact of Blade & Soul: fast martial arts combat, polished visuals and that wuxia movie feel. The original arrived in South Korea in 2012 and in the West in 2016. Now NC America has announced that Blade & Soul NEO, the remastered version, is coming soon to Steam, and you can already add the game to your wishlist.
Where to play in the meantime
The remaster launched in the West on February 25 on PURPLE, NCSOFT’s own platform, where it is free. Since then, it has received two free content updates, Moonwater Plains 1 and 2, and more updates are planned for mid-year. The Steam date is yet to be announced.
What changed in the remaster
The reimagining keeps the original story intact and brings:
- remastered graphics and animations;
- Infinite Windwalk, to glide and explore without limits;
- action combat with a new skill system;
- intense PvP;
- challenging dungeon bosses;
- a more powerful character creation tool.
Windwalk, for those who don’t remember, was one of the game’s trademarks: running across rooftops and gliding across the map like in a kung fu movie. Removing its limit is one of those changes veterans will feel in the very first minutes.
The same old story
The plot remains the same. The player joins the Hongmoon clan, led by Master Hong, and sees the clan suddenly destroyed by the villain Jinsoyun and her accomplices, Yura and Gubong. Left for dead, the hero sets off on a journey of discovery, intrigue and revenge, alone or with friends.
Is it worth it?
For those who kept good memories of the original, the proposition is to revisit the same journey with a new look and without paying to get in. For those who have never played, it’s a free entry point to one of the most remembered action MMORPGs of its generation. Details on the official website, BladeandSoul.com.
