Kotaku Australia shuts down along with other Nine Entertainment sites

Kotaku ends its Australian division this Sunday, July 7, along with Vice, Gizmodo, Refinery29 and Lifehacker, owned by Nine Entertainment.

At least the Australian division is, for now.

It is surprising how well-known platforms get toppled overnight. Nine Entertainment, the conglomerate that acquired the Australian version of the platform in 2022, along with several other technology outlets in the land where animals have HP bars, decided yesterday to shut down the company’s operations.

Through an announcement on X/Twitter, managing editor David Smith announced on Sunday night (July 7, 2024) the closure of the Australian division of the eminent platform.

Along with the closure of Kotaku Australia, other big names were shut down in the territory in parallel.

Vice, Gizmodo, Refinery29, and Lifehacker are the other companies that received notice of the end of operations in Australia. At the time of this publication, none of the sites has an official announcement about the closure.

Stay tuned for more updates on the case.
