Listen up, Eorzea crowd: in July 2021, Square Enix dropped the PC requirements for Endwalker, the fourth expansion of Final Fantasy XIV, the MMO that came back strong after a troubled launch and became one of the most played and loved in the genre. And for those still unsure whether their machine could handle it, a free benchmark tool came along with it.
The requirements released at the time:
- Minimum (1280×720): Intel Core i5 at 2.4 GHz or higher, 4 GB of RAM or more and a GeForce GTX 750 or Radeon R7 260X graphics card;
- Recommended (1920×1080): Intel Core i7 at 3 GHz, 8 GB of RAM or more and GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon RX 480;
- Storage: 80 GB free in any configuration, already counting the base game and the expansion.
For those who like to test beforehand, the benchmark was the best option: according to Square Enix, it gave a “more accurate” evaluation of PC performance on the new version. It also had a character creator, which already showed what the new options looked like, such as male Viera. The tool can be downloaded from the official site. Check out the trailer:
The expansion was set for November 23, 2021 on PC, PS4 and PS5, and demand came in strong: pre-orders were between 160% and 180% above those of Shadowbringers, the previous expansion.
What came next
Endwalker ended up delayed and came out on December 7, 2021, after development affected by the pandemic. The expansion closed the Hydaelyn and Zodiark arc, which had run since A Realm Reborn, raised the level cap to 90 and brought two new jobs: Sage, a healer, and Reaper, who fights with a scythe. Later, the game also reached Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
