Check it out: during Inside Xbox, Microsoft’s monthly show with Xbox One news, the first official Fortnite bundle for the home console was revealed. The package was called the Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition Bundle and hit stores the same week as the announcement.
What came in the box: an Xbox One S with 1 TB of storage and a kit of exclusive Fortnite items. The highlight was the Eon skin, accompanied by the Epic Aurora glider and the Resonator pickaxe. To top it off, the bundle included 2,000 V-Bucks, the game’s virtual currency used to buy cosmetics and the battle pass, plus a one-month trial of Xbox Game Pass and another of Xbox Live Gold, the subscription that was required to play online on the console.
The timing was no accident. Battle Royale Season 6 began on September 27, two days after the announcement, and Fortnite was at its peak, becoming the talk of school, work and everywhere else. Nintendo and Samsung had already surfed this wave with special bundles and items, and this was the first exclusive Fortnite bundle on the Xbox side.
For those just arriving on the console, it was a way to start already with a rare look and currency to spend. And for those who like collecting cosmetics, Eon became one of those items that only shows up in the closet of someone who bought the right bundle at the right time.
What came next
The Xbox One S made way for the new generation: the Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, and Microsoft ended production of the Xbox One family throughout that year. Fortnite, meanwhile, remains free on current Xbox consoles, with new seasons and items every few months.
