In May 2018, it looked like something new for Persona 4 was on the way. The next issue of Persona Magazine, a Japanese magazine dedicated to Atlus’ series, due on May 24, had its cover shared on Twitter by user Gespy, with one of the blurbs already translated by fans:
“Persona 4 Ever More!
Persona 4 is not over!
Game, anime, manga. See the latest information!”
The magazine hinted that Persona 4 Ever More would be a multi-front project, with a game, anime and manga. Since the issue would only hit newsstands at the end of that week, there was no way to know for sure what it was. The most popular theory was a PS4 remaster, along the lines of Persona 4 Golden, the expanded version released for PS Vita in 2012.
It made sense: Persona 4 was turning 10 in July 2018, since the original came out for PlayStation 2 in Japan on July 10, 2008, and Atlus had turned the game into a small franchise, with fighting games, a rhythm game and Golden itself. On the other hand, Never More is the name of Persona 4’s ending theme, so Ever More could be just a pun on the song, and not the name of a new game.
What came next
The PS4 remaster did not arrive that year. The first major re-release only came on June 13, 2020, when Persona 4 Golden launched on Steam and became a hit: over 500 thousand copies in under a month and 1 million units on PC by June 2021. On January 19, 2023, Golden also reached PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Xbox Series X|S.
The remake fans were asking for in 2018 was announced years later: Persona 4 Revival was unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PC and PS5, launching on Game Pass on day one. The wait was long, but Persona 4 really was not finished.
