Rare rules out loot boxes in Sea of Thieves

Rare executive producer Joe Neate told IGN that Sea of Thieves will have only cosmetic microtransactions, added with its first major content update.

Developer Rare has ruled out the inclusion of the controversial loot boxes in its new game Sea of Thieves.

During an IGN visit to Rare, executive producer Joe Neate gave some statements.

First he said that “Sea of Thieves” will launch without microtransactions, but will add them in its first major content update, planned for three months after launch, but they will be for cosmetics only and not affecting gameplay development.

“It will only be possible to buy cosmetic items in the game, and it will let the player always know what they are buying.”

Explained Joe Neate, executive producer of the game.

“Our goal at launch is to deliver a great gameplay experience; we will turn on the option to spend money when we release the first major update.”

“We thought a lot about what is right for the experience, and the most important thing is that you have to join the social and fun nature of the game, so anything we implement will have no impact on the player’s power or progression and you will always know what you are getting.”

He also dropped a hint of the first DLC, which will add pets for each player’s characters (cats, monkeys, parrots and a few more animals).

Sea of Thieves has a release date of March 20, 2018, for XBOX and PC
